it's a romanticism, this whole "being a creative" thing. i'm moved, filling in the blanks of history that refused to center Blackness in anything other than the narratives of captivity. is this a "rewriting" of history? ...fuck, yes. my history, as an african-american, was already rewritten beginning way back in 1619.
but i'm not here to simply rehash the past. this is time-traveling. a sankofaism. a gawlology or abstrack-africana incorporating history & mythology & panafricanism into an afrofuturism 400 years ago: the refurbishing of modern traditions denied us because white supremacy didn't like the way we looked.
as a child my mother sang field hollers to us as lullaby, as fairytale, as nursery rhyme—"gonna jump back turn around pick a bale of cotton" as personal narrative. i create because i refuse to continue leaving struggle as the main narrative for how we liberate ourselves.
